‘Love on Sauce’: Rob Tennent

For the month of love, Sauce Mag is releasing a series titled: 'Love on Sauce', in which we’re showcasing some of our favourite saucettes. February is the month to flaunt around all the love we have, both for ourselves and for one another, so let’s center our most beloved folks to remind the world that you may love whomever you like, regardless of who they might be.

This week we are sharing our conversation with Rob Tennent on all things love. Tennent is a photographer and creative director from Tāmaki Mauakrau, and a dear friend of Sauce. He was born in Cambodia and travelled around the world, living in different countries before settling down in Aotearoa in 2012. As of March, Rob will be living and working on Gadigal Lands.

Here, we talk all things self-love and loving others.

What does self-love mean to you?

Self love is accepting yourself wholeheartedly and knowing that you are enough.

Tell me about one way in which you practice self-love?

I like to go on long walks and hikes. This allows me to think and take time to be with myself.

Shout out to a friend you love!

I love you Mana Mackay! Miss you dearly.

Compliment shower: Name 3 things you love about yourself.

I love my work ethic, sense of adventure and punctuality!

What is one thing you've learned about love along the years?

You can experience many types of love, but never the same love twice.

Describe your favourite memory with a loved one, one you'll never forget & why.

Spending my birthday with my dad a few years ago. It was special as it was our last one together.

What are some of your love languages?

My love languages are physical touch and acts of services.

What does romance look like to you?

Romance comes in many forms. It’s been so long I can’t remember what it looks like! Lol

Do you consider yourself to be a romantic?

I think I can be for the right person. I can be sentimental but I don’t attach those feelings to physical objects. I show romance through my love languages, planning a dinner, organising a surprise hike.

What color do you feel best reflects you?

A nice cool blue. It’s the colours of the things I love: water and clear skies.

Name the last movie you watched, that you loved.

I really enjoyed Beau Travail by Claire Denis

Name a song you love.

Pure Imagination from Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory

What does love feel like to you?

It feels like a warm hug and the smell of someone that comforts you.
