Miss Double Bay
International woman of mystery
I’ve always been drawn to anonymous digital characters, think Deuxmoi, Estee Laundry, Diet Prada or India’s very own DietSabya. Each with its distinctive tone of voice and presence but unison in its impact on culture. Especially digital culture.
There’s something truly powerful about removing a face or individual from an account of authority; it gives it a sense of mystery, while being completely untouchable. It could be any one of us. Me or you. When you create a movement that’s bigger than any one person or people, you allow everyone to feel involved - it’s how you shape a community of die-hard fans. People who send in tips, breadcrumbs, scoops, a community of people working to build an authentic following because, at the end of the day, they don’t really know who they are actually following. And that’s the whole magic of it.
Now, let me bring your attention to the Southern Hemisphere’s very own anonymous internet character - Miss Double Bay, International Woman of Mystery.
In a rare, super sexy and exclusive interview, I’ve caught up with the anonymous internet character to discuss the genesis, her upcoming merch release and who’s blocked her on Instagram.
Please give us a clue as to who Miss Double Bay is.
Honestly, she's whoever you want her to be! Personally, Miss Double Bay is more of an alter ego who exudes a level on mystery and confidence I think one can only achieve through being an anonymous online character.
Where did the name come from, and what made you start the page?
The name came from an article that was written up about me back in 2016 when I trolled the Woolies FB page for free avocados. This was before I had the page! The article coined me as “miss Double Bay” so when it came to making the page and deciding on the name, it just made sense.
Where do you live in Sydney?
Please respect my privacy xxx.
What’s the difference in people between North and South Bondi?
One side has Totti’s; the other doesn’t
How does it feel to be a gay icon?
Flattered you think I’ve reached gay icon status! But seriously, when I die, I’d like my tombstone to read “Gay Icon”. TBH, at the end of the day, I thrive off of making people lol (or maybe I’m just an attention seeker / Sagittarius at heart). I think not taking myself, and the East too seriously makes the page appealing and relatable. Everything I say or do on there, everyone can take with a grain of pink Himalayan salt.
Who is your favourite person to follow on IG?
Honestly don’t know where to begin with this one; @thelukecook, @gaysreact, @celebritymemiorbookclub, @weteggs @xanaxsmoothies, the list goes on! Or I have a weird obsession with stalking people I used to know or go to school with who now live in Byron Bay and do strange Wim Hof therapy and live spiritual Instagram lives.
You basically kickstarted Pattipinkcake's internet vitality; how did you find her?
Someone sent one of her videos into my DM’s; the rest is history! Let’s just say there’s a reason why they say don’t meet your heroes.
Okay, I must know, what’s your favourite Merivale restaurant?
It’s like choosing a favourite child (even though everyone has one). Probably the one that’s most featured on my feed.
Will you be collaborating with Merivale in the future? I hope so.
Ask Justin Hemmes!
What’s been your most viral post?
The biggest one to date would still have to be this.
Which celebs/influencers have blocked you on IG?
The Fat Jewish, one time I called him out for stealing one of my memes, and he DM’d me saying this:
Also, multiple Real Estate agents who I can’t remember their names after featuring them in my Cringe Series.
Who's the coolest person that follows you?
It’s a tough toss-up between Lara Worthington and Gina Liano.
Can you please explain your relationship with Josh Carroll?
Ah, the one that got away.
Talk to me about your Emotional Water Bottles; what was the genesis of your new merch?
I thought I’d take the concept of an ‘emotional support bottle’ to the literal next level. Also, I kept seeing everyone lugging around the same oversized bottle, and I thought to myself, “who would want to lug that thing around all day?” If I wanted to do weights, I would go to the gym.
Okay, and how much water do you actually drink each day?
I’m notorious for not getting my daily 2L, but I have to say and shameless plug here, my trusty emotional support bottle is the perfect size to take with me wherever I go. She’s now always with me to remind me to stay hydrated.
How do you look after your skin? Drop your skincare routine
I recently switched to all Emma Lewisham products, and I’m obsessed. I’ve suffered from adult acne (though it is somewhat mild) for as long as I can remember, and for the first time, I can say I feel confident walking out of the house with zero makeup on.
Now I have friends saying to me, “Woah, your skin looks really good”. That’s either a clear indicator my skin was bad before OR that my skin is now clear AF and glowing (or both). Either way, I’m here for it. I’ve also been trying to get in the ocean as much as possible, which always helps.
Will you always be an International Woman of Mystery, or can we organise a fan meet and greet?
Only if it’s followed by a bottomless brunch! Count me in.
If Miss Double Bay was a snack, what would she be?
