Sauce x Me. | Spirituality, Purpose and Body with Hannah Crerar
In proud partnership with Me.
To celebrate the launch of Me, a period care brand designed by, and for, the modern-day womxn – Sauce speaks with the Me Collective.
The Me Collective is a genus of diverse, socially conscious, real
womxn hailing from New Zealand.
Period care is intimate and integral, but so often it’s left unspoken and positioned on our shelves in a typically unsophisticated manner. Periods are personal, but they’re also universal. Blood is interconnection.
In partnering with Me, we aim to explore taboo conversations around period care, to touch on topics others have left unsaid. To connect on a level we haven’t with you before, we hope you find something you are looking for here, Saucettes.
We understand not only womxn bleed and not all womxn bleed. Me Collective members may use gendered terms in their storytelling that aligns with their personal experience or understanding.
Our fifth Me. collective member is Soul Psychology master, Hannah Crerar. Hannah is a force to be reckoned with. Over many years, Hannah has fine-tuned her craft and is now able to help people connect with their soul on a deeper level.
We caught up with Hannah and spoke about energy, spirituality and period irregularity. We hope you love this interview as much as we do.
Can you explain soul psychology?
Soul Psychology is an umbrella term I use to capture the many spiritual and psychological tools I use. I offer a variety of services like Astrology, Human Design, Yoga, Reiki, Meditation and Counselling Psychology, to essentially empower individuals to connect with themselves and live life authentically.
How did you master your skill?
Showing up every day and committing to the work has ultimately been my secret to “mastery. ”I don’t believe mastery is the same as perfection, and there is always something new to learn in my job – so I am always inspired. My extensive studies and personal explorations into spirituality and psychology provided the foundation for Soul Psychology.
Why do you think it’s important to merge spirituality and psychology?
Spirituality and science are often viewed as separate systems, but I believe they overlap in many ways. Energy is energy, and we cannot deny that. There is an undeniable intelligence that exists within and around us. Spiritual tools like Human Design and Astrology give language to it in a way that is empowering and tailored to the individual. Of course, scientific explanations are incredibly useful and validating, but it’s not always “logic” that leads us to true expansion. Ask a quantum physicist to prove what love is, and they may find some anatomical and numerical way to explain it – but some things just need to be felt to be understood.
What do you say to the sceptics?
I do love it when a sceptic actually gets a taste of the “woo woo” because it’s usually a mixture of “WTF, this can’t be real?” and “I need to know more!”. We live in a world where intuition hasn’t been nurtured – so when someone is sketchy about it, I totally get it. I’ve dropped the need to convince or justify whether spirituality is “real.” I much prefer to just connect with people and offer an experience. So many of us go through life merely wanting to confirm what we know. It can be pleasurable and rewarding to feel vindicated and right. But it’s easy to forget there is not just one right way. So stay open.
When did you discover you had a passion in soul psychology/ (How did your passion for Soul Psychology grow)?
I began practising yoga at 16 years old and learnt a lot about the Body-Mind-Soul connection. Whether I felt amazing or awful, the practice would draw me out of my mind and into my body. I would FEEL + PROCESS my experiences instead of trying to intellectualise them. With my mind quiet, I could see that shame, fear and pain were part of my existence but did not have to define my identity. This practice truly connected me to my Soul. My curiosity around the human condition led me to read countless self-help books and spiritual texts.
My private love affair with spirituality lingered while I completed a law and commerce degree and worked corporate for a few years, but there came a time when I knew I had to leave that job. I had been certified as a yoga teacher, and I knew I was passionate about helping people, so I returned to University to study psychology. Along the way, I was going deep with other spiritual sciences like Astrology, Human Design, Yoga Nidra and Reiki. And here we are today! With a few strings to my bow – Soul Psychology was born. It brings me so much joy to share these tools that have enriched my own life.
Have you seen a shift this year in people’s openness to spirituality?
Majorly. With so much time to be introspective, it’s been really refreshing to see people opening up to it all. The world is experiencing a collective crisis of values, and people are literally hurting to know who they are and what their purpose is. The best thing about spirituality is that it taps you into your own power.
What attracted you to partner with Me.?
I love the way Me. has decided to empower women and create a sense of community and belonging. It is so healing when women are given the space to share candidly about their experiences, and it hopefully encourages open conversation elsewhere. Not to mention Me. is caring for the planet with sustainable products. It was a no brainer.
Have you ever struggled with your period?
Unfortunately I have struggled with hypothalamic amenorrhea (basically losing my period for a while). I cringe now to think there were times I would be so happy to skip my period, as it really is one of the “vital signs” in a woman’s health.
How are you working with your body at the moment?
I am currently working with a health coach to bring in a regular cycle using food and supplements to clear a few pathogens from my body including Epstein Barr Virus. I am also addressing the energetic and spiritual side of things by working with an amazing woman who offers womb massage and ancestral healing. I know this isn’t the path that would resonate with everyone, but it’s my path.
What gives you butterflies in your stomach?
The number one time I feel butterflies is when I am preparing for something that is really important to me. Whenever I was nervous as a little girl, my dad would remind me that the butterflies in my stomach were the exact same butterflies I felt when I was excited. It’s all a matter of perspective. Now, when I can feel overwhelmed with nerves, I take a moment to be grateful, as it means I must be doing something I really care about.
When do you feel most empowered?
When I am being myself and expressing my truth, trusting that I will connect with those who matter and not caring about the rest.
What does being a woman mean to you?
I am exploring this concept a lot at the moment while I am doing the work to connect with my womb and the energy of mother earth. I think when anyone is accessing that creative, strong and loving force inside; the essence of being a woman is alive. My grandma and nana both exuded this fierce elegance and inner sparkle that really encapsulated for me what it means to be a woman.
What’s next for Hannah Crerar?
Oohhh my intuition could take me anywhere. I do have a few secret projects I am working on for 2021 that are really fun. Human Design is really resonating with so many people, so I will continue to offer readings as well as my four week School of Soul Psychology course. All these things light me up!
